Elbling is one of the oldest white grape varieties in Europe and is emblematic of Luxembourg's Moselle. Elbling is particularly fond of the shell limestone soils, which give the wine its particularly fresh character. However, Elbling is not a very demanding variety and thus develops very well on the marly soils of the Moselle.
Until the 1960s, Rivaner was the most widespread grape variety on the Luxembourg Moselle and even today, Rivaner remains cultivated on more than 300 hectares. The reason is simple: there are many applications for this early maturing grape variety. Moreover, this fresh, tangy wine is very popular with both connoisseurs and those who are just beginning to take an interest in wine.
Riesling is a grape variety adapted to the northern regions, where it ripens slowly under the autumn sun. The location where this vine variety is planted must be carefully chosen: the orientation towards the sun as well as the type of soil, have a great influence on its development. The Luxembourg Moselle, with its shell limestone and steep and stony heat-storing slopes, offers ideal conditions for Riesling production.
Auxerrois belongs to the group of Burgundy grape varieties. However, its mouth and nose are closer to Pinot Blanc, even if it is slightly less acidic. The sweetness of Auxerrois wines is partly linked to the early ripening of this grape variety.
Pinot Gris flourishes particularly on loess terraces, but also on the shell limestone soils of the Moselle. It is increasingly cultivated on the Luxembourg Moselle and generally has a rather low acidity. This grape variety gives very structured wines, combining freshness, elegance and fruitiness.
Pinot Blanc is, like Riesling, a demanding grape variety: it requires warm, deep and properly exposed soils. Correct thinning of the vine at the right maturity level is also essential to reveal the richness of its aromas. On the banks of the Moselle valley, with its shell limestone soil, Pinot Blanc can develop its full character.
Pinot Luxembourg is the product of combining the three noble grape varieties Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. This Cuvée offers a harmonious blend of the characteristics of these different varieties. It testifies to all the know-how of Moselle winemakers, who succeed every year in producing a perfectly balanced wine.
